In her academic career, she has published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and served on a number of local and international editorial boards.

Teaching is always at the heart of Professor TANG. I was one of those privileged to have received teaching from her since my first year of residence.

In the area of Medical Education, she has played a key role in the inception, launching and implementation of the Medical Curriculum Reform while she was the Dean of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong. Together with a number of enthusiasts, the Asian Medical Education Association (AMEA) was formed in 2001. This is the first education association formed in Asia and has over 60 medical schools in its membership.

During her tenure as Vice-President (Education & Examination) of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine and the Chairman of the Education & Accreditation Committee of the Hong Kong Medical Council, she has made continuing medical education (CME) evolving to continuing professional development (CPD), not only for the specialists but also for the general practitioners. She has expanded her interest and responsibility from undergraduate to postgraduate, professional and specialist education in Medicine. She has been invited to serve as the Chairman of the International Committee on the 2008 CPD Conference that will bring experts together to provide the best evidence for lifelong learning.

As President of the Academy, she is committed to the maintenance of standard in medical practice, in life-long learning, and in knowledge translation. The Academy has worked with various organizations to achieve these goals locally, nationally and internationally. She and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine have been invited by the China Ministry of Health to assist in the development of Specialist Training, Accreditation and Registration in the People’s Republic of China. In pursuit of this event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed on 14th April 2006 between the Ministry of Health and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. The standard of specialists in Hong Kong and the work of the Academy have been endorsed by China through this MOU. This is an important milestone in the history of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.
