HKCOG Statement on the use of paracetamol in pregnancy

Dear colleagues,

The news on the association between the use of paracetamol in pregnancy and neurological developmental disorders of the children, together with the action of USFDA have generated a lot of concern among obstetricians, family physicians, paediatricians and related healthcare professionals. At the same time, the ACOG, RCOG, RANZCOG and the TGA Australia have issued statements unanimously supporting the benefits of using paracetamol for indicated medical conditions during pregnancy which have outweighed any potential risks.

The Council of the HKCOG felt that it is important to issue a statement on this issue for our fellows, members and trainees as well as other healthcare professionals whose work is related to women and child health. Please find our current stand. The College will continue to monitor the new research and issue further guidelines if necessary.

Thank you.

Regards,
