Accreditation of Combined Obstetric and Gynaecological Service

The Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (HKCOG) recommended a change for combined obstetrical and gynaecological services in Hong Kong, instead of separate accreditation of each service, since March 2013.

The aim is to simplify the accreditation so as to rationalize administrative work of service units.  Reaccreditation is conducted every five years.

All hospitals with presently accredited obstetric &/or gynaecological services in Hong Kong will to join the accreditation program a standardized documentation is used for the application & reaccreditation process.  A designated person is required to be responsible for governance of the service unit.  A named O&G specialist is required to take charge of quality assurance of the service unit as well.  Inspection team of the College will visit the hospital to confirm adequacy of facilities, equipment, manpower, quality assurance, governance, and support for obstetricians and gynaecologists.   A certificate of combined obstetric and gynaecological service will then be issued by the College which will be valid for 5 years, upon satisfaction of the College that requirements are fulfilled.  When there are changes in accreditation guidelines, the College requests early implementation, preferably reflected with annual reporting documentations.

Training units wishing to be granted the certificate of accreditation are also required to complete and submit relevant documents & reports.  No additional inspection will be conducted if they have been approved by the Hospital Recognition Committee and their 5-year recognition period has not expired.
