Accreditation of Maternity Service Unit
HKCOG pioneers an accreditation system for maternity service units in Hong Kong since 1996. Hospitals providing both outpatient and inpatient obstetric services in Hong Kong can apply to the College to be accredited if the obstetric department has reached a standard stipulated by the College.
The hospital or department can contact College Secretariat to obtain an application form, which requires information about the hospital, including the clinical workload, the key obstetric equipment and facilities, the manpower and relevant supporting services. A guidelines for the accreditation exercise will also be provided.
On receipt of application the College will organize an inspection team to visit the hospital. Information provided by the hospital will be verified. The team will also meet and discuss with obstetricians working in the department. Accredited hospital will be issued a bilingual certificate, which is valid for five years. Re-certification will be subject to satisfactory re-inspection report. The whole exercise is free of charges.
