Territory-wide audit in obstetrics and gynecology 2024

Dear Colleagues,

The Territory-Wide Audit in Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a 5-yearly audit organized by the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists since 1994.  The aim is to look at the disease pattern, clinical management and treatment outcome for all obstetric deliveries and inpatient gynaecological care in Hong Kong.  The series of audit reports have provided valuable information on the trend of the inpatient workload and changing pattern of clinical practice in our specialty.  We are very grateful to all the participating hospitals and members of the College for their enormous efforts and contribution in making the previous exercises successful.

Our College is conducting the 7th audit exercise in 2024.  As in the previous exercises, it will be a one year audit starting from the 1st January 2024 and ending on the 31st December 2024.  As before, all deliveries with date of delivery within the audit period are included in the obstetric audit and all episodes of hospitalization with date of admission within the audit period are included in the gynaecological audit.  There are some small changes in the dataset and data form for both obstetrics and gynaecology as outlined below.

A. Obstetric audit

    1. The definition of post-partum haemorrhage is changed to blood loss >= 500 ml irrespective of the mode of delivery. The change is in line with the definition adopted by the Coordinating Committee (COC) in Obstetrics & Gynaecology of the Hospital Authority

    2.  The performance of antenatal screening for pre-eclampsia (PET screening) and the use of oxytocics in the management (prevention and treatment) of post-partum haemorrhage are included in the audit

B. Gynaecology audit

     1. There are a number of new items being added to the diagnosis and treatment, in particular the nature of complications following previous treatment under the Diagnosis coding “L. Miscellaneous Gynaecological Conditions & Procedure related Complications"

     2.  There will be an audit on the practice of morcellation for specimen removal in laparoscopic surgery

For details, please refer to the guidelines, dataset and audit forms which will be available shortly in all participating hospitals and institutes.  They can also be obtained from the College Secretary or downloaded from the College website (http://www.hkcog.org.hk/hkcog/pages_3_77.html).  If you have any queries or require assistance, please contact me or the co-ordinator of the hospital concerned.  The list of co-ordinators of the participating hospitals is attached for your reference, or you can check it up in the College website.  I would like to thank all of you for the time and effort in participating in this audit.  Your continual support and contribution are crucial to the success of this important exercise.

May I take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Thank you very much.
