Accreditation and Re-accreditation of Specialist Colposcopists and Trainer Colposcopists Accreditation

  • With the rolling out of the territory-wide cervical smear screening program in Hong Kong, the demand for colposcopy service is expected to increase. Parties and professionals involved in the cervical smear screening program and subsequent management are expected to set an acceptable standard of service and to have a structured quality assurance program in place. The standard and quality will be under the purview of Government Cervical Screening Program Quality Assurance Committee.  With the assistance of The Hong Kong Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (HKSCCP) that holds regular educational activities, the College has developed the standards and quality assurance program for colposcopy service since July 2002.
  • From 2005 onwards, accreditation can only be achieved through structured training provided by Trainers in accredited Colposcopy Service Centres where good facilities, high standard and adequate caseloads are available.
  • The accreditation requirements have been revised in Dec 2021.  Those who apply for accreditation after Jun 2022 should follow the new rules.  Those who apply between Jan 2022 to Jun 2022 can choose to follow either the old rules or new rules.

Re-accreditation

  • Accredited specialist colposcopists are required to maintain a good volume of colposcopy practice, participate in quality assurance program and attend continuous medical education events related to colposcopy in order to be reaccredited in perpetuating 3-year reaccreditation cycles. The relevant documents can be downloaded from below for your references.
  • The reaccreditation requirements have been revised in Dec 2021.  Those who apply for reinstatement after Jun 2022 should follow the new rules. Those who apply between Jan 2022 to Jun 2022 can choose to follow either the old rules or new rules.
  • Trainer status would be lost if the specialist colposcopist fails to get reaccredited or the specialist no longer participates in training in a colposcopy service centre. Trainer status could be reactivated when the specialist colposcopist get reinstated and is nominated by a lead clinician of the accredited colposcopy centre.
